OpenCCG How To
Build A Deck
Written By Josh Tordsen
In a regular CCG, you would normally go out and buy a starter deck, purchase additional card packs (called "booster packs") and then assemble a deck and play.  In OpenCCG, the cards and starter decks are free to download and print off.

But not every game is the same.  Start with the rules.  The rulebook will tell you exactly how to build the deck so it complies with the game rules.

Next, see if there is a starter deck to download.  Some games may have a starter deck to download, and that is a great place to start.  If not, begin by downloading the cards you will need to build your starter deck.

Do not obsess about trying to pick exactly the right cards.  Chances are, despite your best efforts, you will have some cards that don't really work with the deck you are trying to build.  As you learn and play the game more, you will learn the best combinations of cards.

You will need ot have access to a computer with a color printer.  To play there really is no restrictions however, to be tournament legal, the cards must:
  • be printed out at 600dpi resolution in full color.
  • be printed on 65-lb cardstock paper (minimum. photo paper also acceptable)
  • be inserted into protective card sleeves with opaque backs
  • only the face side of the card need be printed.  Printing card backs is optional.
