OpenCCG How To
Start a Player's Group
Written By Josh Tordsen
Starting a player's group is easier than you might think. OpenCCG will sanction player groups as small as 4 people and allow groups as small as 6 to host sanctioned tournaments.

The Basics
First off, find 4 or more people who would be willing to learn a new card game and attend your games regularly.  Play a couple of "friendly games" to see if the game is a good fit.

Second, discuss the structure of the group.  The Player Group Charter can help you with topics. Topics should include:
  • Name of the group
  • Where you will play (you should have enough room for up to 12 players).
  • When you will play
  • How often you will play
  • Who will be group leader
  • Who will the referees be (you should have at least 1 if you want to hold tournaments)
  • Will you charge a joining fee?
  • Optional items
    • Treasurer (responsible for fees and accounting)
    • Secretary (responsible for promotions, membership)

The first meeting
Start by introducing yourself, the founding members, and talk about what you plan to do in the future.  Discuss scheduling, organization, and dues. Help the members that do not know how to play and pair them up with more experienced members.

Getting the Group Sanctioned
Send e-mail to openccg@gigastrand.com with all of your groups information. We will post your group on the website for others to find.
