How OpenCCG Benefits Players
A Message from "Praetor Terrill"

Forming the Sioux Falls Star Trek CCG Player's Guild was a very rewarding experience not just for me but for the other members of the guild as well. Though our group was small we took advantage of many opportunities.  For many years our group played each other and many guests that came in to play from time to time.

Each of us took different approaches to our deck design and card acquisition.  Myself and most of the others in the guild were only limited by our income when it came to acquiring cards for our playing sets.  A few others were only limited by the amount of debt they could carry or the amount of money in the cash drawer at work.

This was an unfortunate reality that plagued not only our group but continues to plague other groups worldwide.  Some players lost game after game because they could not afford to buy the cards that others were - literally - buying, borrowing, or stealing to get.

OpenCCG solves this problem by creating a even playing field for all participants.  No longer will games be determined by how much money you have to buy cards.  Games will be determined by the amount of skill a player has.

How It Works
The OpenCCG concept is simple: the cards are free. You can download them, print them, play them any way you want. Play them in friendly games, serious games, and even tournaments. The only cost to the player is a small tournament participation fee to play in a sanctioned OpenCCG tournament if that player so chooses.

OpenCCG will:
  • Act as tournament director by keeping track of players stats, rankings and then posting them on the website.
  • Assist player groups in startup and promotion.
  • Help players find those player groups.
  • Keep players informed of new games, new sets and changes in rulings.
  • Provide full support to OpenCCG sanctioned referees.
OpenCCG Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is CCG?
A. CCG stands for Customizable Card Game.  OpenCCG gives players access to obtain cards for various card games free of charge.

Q. What makes it open?
A. The ability to obtain and play CCG games for free is what makes it open.  OpenCCG only charges for sanctioned tournament participation.

Q. How do you get cards?
A. Download them and print them off.  We recommend card stock paper.

Q. Why is it free?
A. CCG Gaming is a fun activity with many benefits.  We believe everyone should have equal access to the cards and tournaments regardless of their ability to purchase cards.

Q. Is there an age limit?
A. No.  But you do have to be able to read pretty well with most games.

Q. How hard are the games to learn?
A. That depends on the game.  Player Groups help by teaching you how to play and obtaining valuable playing experience.

Q. What are player groups?
A. Player groups are groups of 4 or more people that get together to play each other and practice to play in tournaments.

Q. What are Tournaments?
A. Tournaments are events where players test their skill against other players.

Q. What is a Sanctioned Tournament?
A. Sanctioned Tournaments are tournaments that are registered and approved of by OpenCCG.

Q. Do you give out prizes?
A. Yes.  Players who participate in OpenCCG Sanctioned Tournaments will get a state and national rank as well as a PDF certificate filled out and signed by the tournament referee at the conclusion of the tournament.

Q. Will you hold national Tournaments?
A. That is the plan.  As OpenCCG grows, tournaments will get larger and inevitably we will have regional, national, and other tournaments.

Q. What do I need to play?
A. Access to a computer and color printer.  Also, you will need card sleeves (aka deck protectors) with an opaque back.
